Certification and recipient requirements

When submitting documents in Poland, check whether the authority requires a Polish sworn translator (tłumacz przysięgły), which is distinct from standard UK certification. Our sworn translation guide explains why country-specific requirements matter.

Document translation between Polish and English

Personal documents and formal paperwork may need both accurate text and a consistent representation of names, numbers, seals and annotations. The recipient may require a plain professional translation, certification or a procedure specific to its jurisdiction. We recommend sharing the complete source file and the receiving organisation’s requirements from the outset.

Language-specific considerations: Polish civil-status paperwork, academic records and employment documentation contain grammatical endings, Polish diacritics and administrative terms whose English rendering depends on context. Preserve personal names and document references exactly, and check whether the recipient needs a particular naming or transliteration convention.

Common documents and uses

Polish translations may be requested for birth, marriage and death records, court papers, degree certificates, professional licences, contracts and employment letters. The translation should reflect the original record accurately, including meaningful formatting, rather than changing legal or administrative classifications to appear more familiar in English.

Our certified translation page explains accuracy statements for official records. For contracts and other specialist content, explore legal translation and business translation services.

Certification and international use

For use before an authority in Poland, check whether a Polish sworn translator (tłumacz przysięgły) is required. A UK-certified translation may not fulfil that different legal requirement. The receiving authority is the best source for required translation declarations, signatures, paper copies and any other formalities.

Notarisation and apostille legalisation are different services and do not themselves certify the linguistic accuracy of the translated text. Read about notarised translations and apostille-related translations if overseas authentication is involved.

How to request your Polish translation

  1. Send a complete, legible copy of the original material, including official notes or reverse-side information where relevant.
  2. Identify whether the translation is into or from Polish and where it will be used.
  3. Specify the required deadline, document format and any written authority instructions.
  4. Review the translation scope and quotation before confirming the work.

Turnaround options depend on the material, formatting, language combination and any additional certification needs. We can advise on those factors after reviewing your files.
