Personal documents and formal paperwork may need both accurate text and a consistent representation of names, numbers, seals and annotations. The recipient may require a plain professional translation, certification or a procedure specific to its jurisdiction. We recommend sharing the complete source file and the receiving organisation’s requirements from the outset.
Chinese civil and identity paperwork may include household registration information, residential addresses, relationship entries, identity-card details or official seals. A household registration extract does not automatically correspond to an English birth certificate, and the document’s source title should be described accurately rather than replaced with an assumed UK equivalent.
For Simplified or Traditional Chinese source text, send a complete, readable copy and state where the translation will be used. Where a person’s name already has an established Latin spelling on their passport, supply that spelling for comparison while preserving the original characters and annotations. If a passport is a separate document in the submission, see passport translation.
Language-specific considerations: The written script may be Simplified Chinese or Traditional Chinese, and spoken Mandarin and Cantonese are not interchangeable as language varieties. Provide the source document or specify the intended reader’s region so characters, terminology and local conventions can be reviewed.
Chinese translations may be requested for identity documents, household registration records, school transcripts, company registration papers, legal notices, contracts and business content. The translation should reflect the original record accurately, including meaningful formatting, rather than changing legal or administrative classifications to appear more familiar in English.

Official Chinese documents can involve additional registration, notarisation or legalisation requirements. These are not automatically satisfied by a translation certified in the UK. The receiving authority is the best source for required translation declarations, signatures, paper copies and any other formalities.
Notarisation and apostille legalisation are different services and do not themselves certify the linguistic accuracy of the translated text. Read about notarised translations and apostille-related translations if overseas authentication is involved.
Turnaround options depend on the material, formatting, language combination and any additional certification needs. We can advise on those factors after reviewing your files.
